first_imgCounty Champs: MovilleMoville reclaim u-15 county title after 3 year absence.Moville u-16s ladies reclaimed the county title in a thrilling game vs Fanad Gaels on Tuesday in Convoy.Moville started the brighter and raced into an early 2 point lead before Fanad goaled with virtually there first attack, closely followed by a point. However, the Moville girls soon settled down after this early setback and began to play the fast running game that had carried them to this final. They cut open the Fanad defence on 3 occasions to raise the green flag with goals from Sarah Jane Mc Donald, Roma Mc Laughlin. They picked off 4 additional points but Fanad kept the scoreboard ticking at the other end and Moville held a narrow lead at half time of 3-06 to 3-03. If the first half was exciting then the second half had everything that is good about ladies football. Fanad started brightly and soon levelled the game and then went ahead. Moville responded before Fanad had a 10 period of dominance in which they moved into a 2 point lead. With about 8 minutes to go, Fanad were awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Amy Canning. This seemed to spur the Moville girls on they pressurised the Fanad defence time after time. SJ Mc Donald goaled from a free on the 13m line and this was quickly followed by a couple of points to leave Moville 2 points ahead. Fanad reduced the deficit to the minimum but from the resulting kick out, Roma Mc Laughlin picked the ball on her own 45 and drive forward waltzing past 3 defenders before calmly slotting the ball over the bar form 30 m for the final score of the game to leave the final score 5-09 to 5-07.Niamh Cavanagh accepted the cup from Donegal Ladies President , Kenny Griffen. She thanked the girls for their hard work and committment everyone who had contributed to the team winning the title and especially to manager, Paul Mc Dermott and his backroom team of William Mc Elhinney, Elaine Cavanagh, Sonia Mc Laughlin and Margaret Mc Donald. This is the 7th county tile at this age group in 9 years for Moville, and many of these girls are still u-16 next year.Referee watch- well and fairly refereed. The man in the middle got all the big decision right and talked to the players throughoutTurning point- goals win games they say.. Fanad were leading entering the final 10 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. If they had scored, it may have been a bridge to far for Moville at that point- they didn’t thanks to Amy Canning and Moville responded in kind Player of the match- Niamh Cavanagh ruled the square, Rachael Mc Laughlin and Michelle Logue were superb at wing back, Nicole Mc Dermott and SJ Mc Donald covered every blade of grass at midfield and Roma Mc Laughlin tormented the Fanad defence with her speed. However this was truly an ALL ROUND TEAM performance. Moville won all games before the final and no team had really questioned them. Fanad did last night but Moville proved to be worthy county champions for 2013.  U-16 LADIES FINAL MATCH REPORT: MOVILLE 5-09, FANAD 5-07 was last modified: May 29th, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:FANAD 5-07U-16 LADIES FINAL MATCH REPORT: MOVILLE 5-09last_img read more
