We also have a lot of USB devices. That’s why this USB hub is great. The ThinkGeek-exclusive Cube-Works Self-Destruct USB 3.0 Hub is a USB hub and a doomsday button all in one.Yes, it’s a novelty USB hub. But it’s a pretty nice one! It has a solid aluminum body, with a nice, thick cable permanently and securely attached to the back. And, of course, the blue tabs on the ports on the back mean it’s a USB 3.0 hub, so you’re going to get nice, fast transfer speeds. I like having the permanently attached cable, because then I don’t need to worry if whatever USB cable I grabbed to plug the hub into my computer is USB 3.0 or not.It looks like a weapon launch button, or at least what a nerd would think a weapon launch button looks like. Three-step command, with two toggle switches and a key switch, surrounding a big red button under a flip-up plastic lid. A big red light turns on when the switches are all flipped in the right order, and pressing the button makes a falling bomb noise. The noise is my only complaint. It sounds pretty flaccid, even for a small, USB-powered speaker. The satisfying clack of the toggle switches, and just being able to turn the key and flip the cover up and down, are much more satisfying than the sound effect. As fake explosions go, though, it sounds like a dud. This is a nice little desktop toy that gives you something to physically play with, and adds extra USB 3.0 ports to your computer. It’s a little pricey at $59.99, but for the money you get a USB hub that’s solid, eye-catching, and fun to use.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.last_img read more
