Breaking: Traffic worries as 5 months of roadworks planned for heart of Letterkenny

first_imgConcern has been expressed by business groups and motorists in Letterkenny with confirmation that five months (21 weeks) of roadworks are scheduled for Letterkenny starting in May.And the bad news is that the extensive work MUST be carried out during daytime hours which promises even more traffic congestion. The work being carried out by Cleantech Group on behalf of Irish Water is an upgrade of the existing sewer network on Pearse Road, Oldtown, Charley Daly Terrace (R250 towards Ballymacool) and Plunkett O’Boyle Terrace (Back Road). Letterkenny Chamber said members attended the open showcase regarding Irish Water work in the town that included all the areas of forthcoming work.A spokesman said they voiced their concerns at this opening evening and requested a follow-up meeting to get more detail.A spokesperson explained “At very short notice, we were invited to and did attend, a meeting with Irish Water, Donegal County Council and the contractors and we asked the businesses in the immediate vicinity to attend.“This meeting enabled all of us to voice our concerns about the impact of the works and the contractor explained their initial traffic management plan and schedule of works. “We then asked for a further meeting that was arranged for last week where we talked in more detail regarding the traffic management plan. It was also attended by some of the businesses in the area.”Starting on 13th May the planned works are to start on Pearse Road adjacent to Larkin’s Lane and will continue west to Station House Hotel, cross the road, then north up Old town Road to the roundabout at Lower Main Street, then west for approximately 180m.The last phase is at the junction and heading up Plunkett O’Boyle Terrace (Back Road) for 120m.Part of the construction will involve piling which CANNOT take place at night.A spokesman for the chamber added “This piling is very deep and cannot be carried out at night due primarily due to safety concerns and also due to residential property and a hotel in the area. The extent of this work is significant and we have made every effort to ensure the contractor and authorities get this work carried out as quickly as possible.” The traffic during the works will be one way on Oldtown Road. All traffic coming from the Retail Park that wants to go West will have to go right at the junction behind McDonalds. Traffic wanting to go to Oldtown will be diverted up Oliver Plunkett Road then right, down Lower Main Street.Car Parking spaces will be removed at the top of Lower Main Street (near Clarke’s Newsagent) to allow for larger vehicles turning in the junction. There will be traffic management people on the junction at Larkins Lane, top of Oliver Plunkett Road and Lower Main Street to stop and direct traffic and to keep it moving. The work from Pearse Road to Dunnes will take approximately 13 weeks. After that the Pearse Road west bound will re-open.The Chamber spokesperson added “This work will cause traffic issues. In our meetings we have emphasised the need for a robust traffic management plan including signage on all entrances to Letterkenny advising traffic heading for Glenties and Dungloe to go via N56.“We have also emphasised the importance of Traffic Management personnel at all times and very specifically on hand when we see traffic building up.“The Chamber infrastructure committee have made various suggestions throughout these discussions to the Irish Water team that they have taken on board. There have been more suggestions made over recent days that we have sent on to the Contractor.“We have, at all times, asked that the contractor and council talk directly with businesses affected and work with them as best they can.“We have requested further follow-up meetings with the various parties involved in the project so that we can ensure the impact on our business community is minimised as much as is possible.”Breaking: Traffic worries as 5 months of roadworks planned for heart of Letterkenny was last modified: April 26th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:councilIrish WaterletterkennyOldtownroadworkstrafficlast_img read more

The hair bow can be clipped in your hair with the featured alligator clip on the back. Very pretty but clips are only attached by glue meaning that they come off easy, have lost 6 in this way already . Brilliant for my daughters hair. Matches with most outfits and great for school. Ordered on saturday evening & delivered next day sunday. Lovely real bargin she loves them. A perfect size, exactly as described and really nice quality. Clips are also a nice good size and strong enough to not fall out. Now i have a hairbow to match any outfit in every colour i could possibly wanti even added some beads to a few of mine to make them a little less plain and i think they turned out pretty cutewould definitely recommend if you need either a good range of hair accessories or a quick crafty project. Lovely bows and of good quality. 15 pieces of the baby girls kids hair bows headbands in different colors in one set will be sold together. Excellent product, excellent price, prompt delivery. Very good order 2 lots for my twins well worth it fantastic value for money and very good quality arrived by due date. Fantastic product, good quality. Would recommend this product, thank you. Thank you for the lovely bows. Look very pretty in my 2 girls hair ❤️. Color: as shown in the pictures (15 different colors). Lovely but they are much bigger then i expected. Great little bows, lots of different colours. My little girl loves them and they’re great for the price. Fantastic vibrant colours really good quality an a lovely size for my three year old plus they arrived within days. Definitely buy again off them. I always buy these bows as they come in every colour for such a good price too. Fast delivery but product only has ribbon attached to on part of crocodile clip not the bottom, so metal is against scalp. Would be better with ribbon on both sides. And clip is more like the clip you get in science lessons nit flat to the head like you can get. But for the price you can but really argue. Lovely size lovely colours excellent price a must have for all little girls. Great for babies, toddlers and young girls to wear. Really lovely quality item in gorgeous colours and so much more reasonably priced than in the shops. Beautiful bright bows with a good quality clip. Very nice colours, only negative is that there is sometimes a few strands of glue that you have to pull off in places, otherwise perfect. center_img Great for any DIY project as the bows are easily maneuverable to your preference. Exactly as image and excellent service. I was worried about ordering these. But they have lasted months with no sign of wear. Just have a few colours the girl won’t wear. They are a great size for a 3 year old +. Vibrant bows with great grasp for toddlers bunches. Possibly slide or pull on very fine or short hair. Loads of different coulors at a very very good price. Look good but a little big for my little girl still looks good. Ok could be better great qualitylast_img read more

Label language continues to confuse consumers

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest I have always been curious about what goes through a person’s mind while shopping at the grocery store. In the past couple of weeks, I have read several articles regarding consumer surveys, gauging consumer wants and purchasing habits when at the grocery store. I shared one such article in my weekly online newsletter titled, “Informed Consumers Won’t Pay More For ‘Natural’.” In this experiment researchers at Arizona State University polled 663 beef eaters about their willingness to pay for steak labeled with different attributes, one of which being natural. Half of the participants were provided with the definition of natural and half were not.In summary, those who were provided the definition of “natural” were not willing to pay the extra price per pound for the natural label alone. However, those consumers who were not informed on the definition were willing to pay a premium for the product. This leads me to ask the following question: Are you an informed consumer? In case it wasn’t clear, and often it’s not, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service considers all fresh meat “natural.” However, beef that carries a “natural” label cannot contain any artificial flavors, coloring, chemical preservatives or other artificial ingredients. Additionally, natural products must not be more than “minimally processed.” Ground beef falls under the minimally processed umbrella, so it can be labeled natural.Label claims on food can be very confusing to consumers, and adding unnecessary information would only add to that confusion. Some additional label claims include: free range, pasture raised, antibiotic free, partially produced with genetic engineering and a whole list of others. While some of these statements accurately describe a product, they may also be misleading.Research tends to show that many consumers are not always informed with regards to claims on food labels. Another study from Oklahoma State University polled 1,000 consumers, of which 8 of 10 supported mandatory labeling of DNA on food products. This one leaves me scratching my head. I understand that most consumers probably receive little gain from understanding genetics and DNA, but I would sure hope that they understand that the vast majority of food comes from living organisms. Somewhere along the line it appears those folks removed from science and agriculture have forgotten that very simple, but important concept.Ilya Somin, in an editorial for the Washington Post, purposed the following label in the event that the government mandated a DNA label claim:WARNING: This product contains deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). The Surgeon General has determined that DNA is linked to a variety of diseases in both animals and humans. In some configurations, it is a risk factor for cancer and heart disease. Pregnant women are at very high risk of passing on DNA to their children. While I share this suggested label in good humor, it just goes to show the value of unbiased scientific research, which happens to be one of the guiding principles of the Extension system. Take some time to research some of the food labels of the various products that you purchase and become and informed consumer. There is a wealth of information on a food label, from nutrition, production practices, and marketing.last_img read more

Money Monday

first_imgBy Barbara O’NeillCan a service member in his 30s use funds in a traditional IRA to pay for college?Like all IRA owners, service members who withdraw funds from a traditional IRA before age 59 ½ are subject to the 10% early withdrawal penalty with a few exceptions. One of these exceptions is to pay for qualified higher education expenses. Funds withdrawn will be subject to the early withdrawal penalty, however, if they are in excess of the actual amount of expenses. When determining the amount of money needed to withdraw, service members should take into account any distributions from 529 plans, scholarships, grants, and other tax-free payments, such as gifts or inheritances they have received during the year. Qualified higher education expenses for the IRA exemption include tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for enrollment as well as room and board as long as the student is attending school at least half-time.Browse more military personal finance blog posts and webinars answered by experts.Follow Dr. O’Neill on Twitter! This post was published on the Military Families Learning Network Blog on May 27, 2013.last_img read more

Naga groups pushing for separate flag: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister

first_imgNagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton has said that the signing of the Naga peace accord will take a few more days and that the Naga groups, including the NSCN(IM), will keep negotiating for a separate constitution and flag.Mr. Patton, who also holding the Home portfolio, said Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and he were seeking an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to get clarity on their future role.“The signing of the final Naga agreement will not take much time as major groups are on board. We want to know what will be the role of the present government after the accord is sealed. This is the issue we want to discuss with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister,” Mr. Patton, who reached Delhi on Friday, told The Hindu.Mr. Rio is also in Delhi.Mr. Patton said they would have to speak to the neighbouring States of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh amid the possible creation of autonomous councils in Naga-populated areas.“Now they (Centre) will have to tell us the truth, they cannot hide from us any more. The Governor is having discussions with NNPGs and NSCN-IM; things are almost settled but I cannot say anything before it is finalised,” he said.Manipur has been on edge as the peace agreement reaches its final stages.Naga interlocutor R.N. Ravi, who is also Nagaland’s Governor, is holding final discussions with National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) and Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) in the last leg of meetings in Delhi.Lt. Gen. (retd) Shokin Chauhan, chairman of the ceasefire monitoring group, said the situation in Nagaland was peaceful and he was deputed to speak to the NSCN-IM to sort out any apprehension they might have.“I spoke to them (NSCN-IM) on the Centre’s behalf. Most of them were worried about their safety, like what will happen to their cadres, weapons etc after the agreement is signed. I was available to listen to them,” Lt. Gen. (retd) Chauhan said. The armed group, which signed a ceasefire in 1997, has been operating from a camp in Hebron in Nagaland.NSCN-IM statementOn October 31, the NSCN-IM released a statement that the negotiating team led by T. Muivah, has extended his gratitude to various civil society groups including the church and that “God has answered your (Naga people) prayers and they are now able to take positive steps towards a final solution.”Earlier, the Centre had accused the NSCN-IM with which it signed a framework agreement to find a solution to the decades-old Naga issue in 2015 of delaying the talks. However, on Thursday, Mr. Ravi said the armed group was back on board and the final discussions were underway. The NSCN-IM has been fighting for ‘Greater Nagaland’ or Nagalim — it wants to extend Nagaland’s borders by including Naga-dominated areas in neighbouring Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh — to unite 1.2 million Nagas. The Centre has however, ruled out any disintegration of the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur in order to merge the Naga-inhabited areas with the existing State of Nagaland. The NNPG in a statement had claimed that Centre has “endorsed the usage of Naga emblem/flag specifically for cultural identity within Naga homeland.”last_img read more
