Persistent freezing rain has closed some schools in the central and north parts of Clark County today. Battle Ground, the county’s third-largest district, announced its north end schools would be closed, including BGHS, Tukes Valley, Amboy, Yacolt, CAM, SVHS and RHL.Private schools in the Battle Ground area were closed today, too.Several auto accidents were reported this morning as roads remained covered in black ice.In the metro area, temperatures rose overnight, melting a light skim of ice that fell as freezing rain after dark Monday. Vancouver’s temperature was measured at 34 degrees at Pearson Field at 4:53 a.m., according to National Weather Service equipment. That in turn prompted the Southwest Clean Air Agency to issue a Stage 1 burn ban. People are not allowed to set fires outdoors, nor use fireplaces or older, non-certified woodstoves until air quality improves.Freezing fog is possible after dark for each of the next several days.
