New boss to lead Thai tourism

first_imgSomsak Pureesrisak appointed to lead Thailand’s tourism industry. A former electrical engineer has been appointed as Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, replacing the late Chumpol Silpa-archa, who passed away in January this year.Effective 9 April, Mr Somsak steps into the role with an extensive political history, commencing his career in the Department of Town and Country Planning and then rising the ranks to serve as Governor of Suphan Buri Province in Central Thailand.Welcoming the appointment, Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Suraphon Svetasreni said the group looked forward to “implementing initiatives from the minister”, particularly those surrounding the destination’s safety and security for visitors. “We constantly get questions about this matter at international trade shows, and are very pleased that the minister has taken up this issue as a matter of priority,” Mr Svetasreni said.Mr Somsak visited the Ministry of Tourism and Sport on 5 April this year to confirm his appointment with His Majesty the King and familirise himself with ongoing ministry activities.Source = e-Travel Blackboard: NJlast_img
