Download, Prep, and Import Song Stems to Your Favorite NLE

first_imgTrack stems can be extremely versatile when layering music in your project. Find out how to use them in Premiere, Final Cut, and DaVinci Resolve. If you’ve never heard of the term “stems” before, well then buckle up, because your editing game is about to become so much more powerful. Basically, stems are the separate instruments of a song separated into their own individual .WAV file, which can be used to manipulate the song however you like. This means you can lower the vocal track to fit in a voiceover, or even bring up the bass and drums if you want your song to punch a little bit harder. With PremiumBeat’s addition of stems to over half of their library, you now have the ability to master the music you put in your project. Today, we’re going to do a quick walkthrough of how you can implement these stems into 3 different NLEs: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, and DaVinci Resolve.Downloading the StemsIn the PremiumBeat song library, select a song you would like to purchase. To make sure it has a stem package, click the “Download Comp” button to the right of the track. A popup will appear containing the different tracks the song contains, such as loops and shorts. At the bottom, if it includes “Stems,” then you are good to go.Once you’ve purchased the song, you will be prompted with the “Download Music” button on the receipt page. At the bottom of the download window, you will see the download options for the stem folder: either MP3 or WAV formats.Adobe PremiereOnce you’ve downloaded the stems package from PremiumBeat, unzip the folder and drag it into Premiere. From there, you see 4-6 audio tracks within that folder. If you select all of them and drag them in at once, they will line up horizontally, not vertically on different tracks like you would want them to, so drag and drop them one by one onto your timeline in their own individual layers. Make sure that all of the tracks are aligned so they sync up when played. Now, you can go in to each stem and mute some if you wish, or customize your track even further by adjusting each track’s audio level with the pen tool (P).DaVinci ResolveImport the stems folder into your Media Pool. Now, just like Premiere, you are going to have to drag them into the timeline one at a time to get them synced together. One of the cool features of Resolve, though, is that you have the Fairlight audio control panel to adjust your audio levels in full screen. To get there, just select the Fairlight tab at the bottom of the screen. The top section of Fairlight will show you the audio levels of each track, and you can dive deeper into each track’s settings in the inspector tab at the top right.Final CutAfter you’ve dragged your stems folder into the project window, highlight each clip and drag them one by one into your timeline. Again, if you drag them all in together, they will form in a horizontal line.Once in your timeline, you can drag the volume band up and down to control levels on each track. There is also the audio effects tab on the right that you can use to further customize your track.Looking for more articles on working with audio? Temple demolition: bandh by Dalit outfits hits life in Punjab

first_imgThe bandh call over the demolition of the Guru Ravidas temple in Delhi’s Tughlakabad village evoked a strong response in Punjab, even as members of Dalit outfits staged protests in many parts of the State on Tuesday. Most commercial establishments, shops and offices remained closed in Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Fazilka, Barnala, Moga and Kapurthala. The bandh call was given by Dalits under the banner of the Guru Ravidas Jayanti Samaroh Samiti.Members of Dalit community were seen taking out marches and sitting on dharna at several places. Vehicular movement on National Highway 1 was disrupted in Jalandhar after protesters blocked the road as well as arterial roads. A holiday was declared for the educational institutions in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, and Gurdaspur.Dalits, especially in the Doaba region of Punjab, have been staging protests ever since the temple was demolished on August 10 following a Supreme Court order over allegations of encroachment. Terming it an act of sacrilege, they are demanding the reconstruction of the temple on the same land where it stood.Punjab has a Dalit population of 32%, the highest in any State.last_img read more

Chinas moon lander sprouted a plant but now its dead

first_img Share your voice The Chang’e 4 lander is the first to visit the far side of Earth’s natural satellite, sometimes called “the dark side of the moon.” It successfully deployed the Jade Rabbit 2 rover and has now once again made history by sprouting the first seedling on the moon. The ability to grow food on the moon would be important if humanity ever attempts to make good on the sci-fi dream of building a crewed lunar base. We could probably make some nice sweaters from moon-grown cotton. The space agency is already looking ahead to its next lunar mission, Chang’e 5, which is designed to collect lunar samples and bring them back to Earth. It’s also exploring options for a crewed moon mission.First published Jan. 15, 8:19 a.m. PT.Update at 2:28 p.m. PT: Adds that the plant died.  11 Photos Post a comment 0 NASA turns 60: The space agency has taken humanity farther than anyone else, and it has plans to go further.Fight the Power: Take a look at who’s transforming the way we think about energy.  Enlarge ImageA cotton seedling growing in a biosphere habitat. It also had some unusual guests on board and — in a first for the moon — one of them sprouted. Xinhua announced the sprout Tuesday and posted a series of progress images covering the course of nine days and showing a seedling reaching up inside the habitat. The experiment didn’t last long. The same day, China’s state-run Xinhua News declared that it’s already ended.Chang’e 4 touched down in early January.  A team from Chongqing University in China developed a sealed biosphere habitat stocked with seeds, fruit fly eggs and yeast that it hoped would create a mini-ecosystem. The cotton seed was the only one to sprout. The experiment also contained potato and oilseed rape seeds. China moon machines snap striking pictures of each other Chinese lunar rover makes tracks on the far side of the moon Tags The seeds, flies and yeast were selected for their ability to withstand low gravity, strong radiation and wide temperature swings on the moon. The experiment’s chief designer, Xie Gengxin of Chongqing University, told Xinhua that life inside the canister would not survive the lander’s first lunar night, which started on Sunday. The moon’s nighttime period lasts for about two Earth weeks. The temperature plummets during the lunar night. NASA says the moon’s temperatures near its equator can dive to -238 Fahrenheit (-150 Celsius). Chang’e 4 is located in the Von Karman crater in the moon’s southern hemisphere. Why are cruise retailers optimistic Sales are up and 40000 bookings are

first_img TORONTO — More consumers are using travel agents to book their vacations, and especially for cruise vacations they’re reporting higher levels of satisfaction with their travel experience versus travellers who book on their own, according to the latest findings from CLIA.Not only was consumer use of travel agents up nearly 80% year-over-year in 2016, according to the American Express Spending & Saving Tracker, the outlook for cruise bookings in 2017 is smooth sailing with an estimated 25.3 million passengers expected to cruise this year, up from 15.8 million 10 years ago, says CLIA.There’s an abundance of choice when it comes to ships: 26 new ocean, river and specialty ships will come on line in 2017, worth US$6.8 billion. And in 10 years from now, by 2026, there will be 97 new ships, an investment of US$53 billion), according to CLIA’s 2017 State of the Cruise Industry Outlook.Even now in 2017 there’s a lot of capacity but that’s not a bad thing, says Nathalie Tanious, Vice-President, Cruise for TravelBrands, overseeing Encore Cruises. “There’s so much capacity in the marketplace but that’s not a concern,” she said. New ships create buzz, and the cruise lines are doing a great job marketing cruise product and the cruise experience, she notes. And with all the ships sailing now, “there’s an offer out there for everyone, whether it’s a $50 onboard credit for a mainstream cruise line, or a category upgrade for a higher end line.”The incentives are so plentiful that while Wave Season “will give us a bit of a push” there’s not as much of a need for clients to wait for the traditional savings season that kicks off this month and runs through March, adds Tanious. “The deals are good year-round now. And we start earlier and go later” with Wave Season.MSC Cruises got a jump on Wave Season in December with inaugural season deals offering up to US$600 in added value on MSC Seaside, one of the new ships coming in 2017. MSC Seaside is scheduled to make its debut in Miami at the end of this year.Through March 31 clients interested in securing a stateroom on MSC Seaside can get up to $600 of additional value including free shipboard credit, free WiFi and free mealtime drinks depending on the category of stateroom booked. Passengers will also benefit from reduced deposits of only $49 per person. Kids 11 and under sail free.More news:  Onex paying big to get WestJet and that will send airfares soaring, says CWTAnother early Wave Season promotion sees Crystal Cruises adding more than a dozen sailings to its Crystal Clear Choices deal, along with a new March 31 booking deadline. The deal applies to select river cruises as well as ocean cruises.More than two-thirds (67%) of CLIA-member travel agents see growth or significant growth for river cruise lines, and 57% report high growth rates for mass market cruise lines. Sandra McLeod of RedDoorTravel in LaSalle, ON says many of her clients are looking at smaller ships “for more intimacy, less children, no lines and more flexibility. We promote the deluxe and luxury brands and also the suites on the larger ships where more amenities are included.”CLIA-member agents are reporting higher projected sales volumes, with more than 75% of agents predicting a year-end increase for 2016 over 2015, and a third of agents predicting a gain of 10% or more. About 8% of agents said they expected lower volumes than 2015.Agents are also seeing higher cruise spend. Nearly three-quarters of CLIA-member agents say they’re seeing an increase in cruise booking spend, including 22% who say spend is up 10% or more. And 43% say clients are booking nine months to a year in advance, with a further 37% saying they’re seeing cruise bookings as far as one year to 18 months out.Pat Probert of the Bob Family Travel Team at TravelOnly says he’s seeing much higher cruise spend than in past years, coming off a record year with the average cruise sale much higher than in the past few years. “Clients are spending more and more on cruises to get to more exotic places like Alaska, South America, Cape Horn, Europe, Russia and in 2015 we already started booking Australia for 2018,” says Probert. “We are also finding more and more clients doing back-to-back cruises and spending upwards of 15-30 days on cruises if they are retired.  Where people only thought of a five to seven day cruise in the past, it is not uncommon to see people taking nine to 14 day cruises on a regular basis as the cruise lines are really mixing it up now.”More news:  Transat calls Groupe Mach’s latest offer “highly abusive, coercive and misleading”Never judge where a client will go or how much a client will spend to be on a cruise ship, says Probert, who adds his team rarely sells an outside or even an inside cabin nowadays “as people want to feel the wind and hear the ocean from a balcony”.Just a few years ago Probert’s team had “tire kickers looking at cruises for $10,000 to $20,000” and now they are selling these more than ever, and he says it’s not uncommon for him to see people to spend $40,000 to $50,000 on a cruise, something he has rarely seen before.  “Cruising has no limits and for quality it has no barriers because people will spend the money.”And while the mood for 2017 is good, Probert feels it’s important to still be mindful of client sensitivities when it comes to safety. “People want to travel and if someone brings something negative up, we bring up four things that are positive. We like to talk about everything positive and never negative. If there are problems with cruise ship incidents or other things related to cruising we never post these on social media as we want people to think of all the benefits and positive things in cruising.”Among 2016’s highlights for Expedia CruiseShipCenters was a 1-Day Sale for Princess Cruises, creating a windfall $13 million in Princess bookings for the retailer on a single day.Heading into 2017, Matthew Eichhorst, President of Expedia CruiseShipCenters & Head of Global Cruise for Expedia, Inc., said he’s feeling optimistic. After opening 34 new retail locations across North America in 2016, and adding more than 1,200 new vacation consultants to create a team of 4,200, on the sales side Expedia CruiseShipCenters and Expedia online brands have been seen “encouraging growth” for destinations ranging from Hawaii to Panama, he said. This article originally ran as the lead in the January 12th, 2017 issue of Travelweek magazine.Travel agents can subscribe for free to the magazine here.
