first_imgSubmitted to Sumner Newscow — The Wellington varsity tennis boys did well yesterday at Andover finishing with 21 points in the eight team tournament.  With only two tournaments under the Crusaders’ belts and therefore not much of a record against quality players to use for seeding, all their entries got the No. 8 seed out of eight teams.  Brock Edward finished sixth and got a good win over a good Hesston player, Daniel Holthus in the process. He finished sixth. Will Long finished in first place taking home the gold medal in No. 2 singles.  “Will played remarkably well and got the attention of not only all the players he competed against but also many coaches commented on his ability to keep the ball in play and hit consistent shots,” said Allen Keller, Wellington head tennis coach. It was billed as a “doubles tournament” with many good area doubles teams competing and it held up to that, Keller said. “Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams competed well but are pretty inexperienced, and it showed against the seasoned teams they played against,” Keller said. “However, both won their final matches of the day against Wichita Independent teams and finished seventh.”Both doubles team finished seventh.Follow us on Twitter.
