Netball Jamaica closer to naming coach

first_imgThe interview process to select the new head coach of the Jamaica Sunshine Girls team is scheduled to be completed this week.President of Netball Jamaica (NJ) Paula Daley-Morris told The Gleaner in an interview that three individuals, two locals and one from overseas, have applied for the job.Daley-Morris said that her association has interviewed one person so far, and the others will be done this week.”We have to interview people when they are available and so the coach will be named once the process is finished,” said Daley-Morris.The Sunshine Girls have been without a head coach since November, after the resignation Minneth Reynolds, following the team’s 2-1 away series win over rivals England.CLEAR FAVOURITEThe Gleaner has been reliably informed by sources close to the situation that Connie Francis is the clear favourite to land the job.The vastly experienced Francis, who led Jamaica at the FAST5 Netball World Series in New Zealand last October, would be returning for her second stint as the Sunshine Girls head coach.Francis, who represented Waulgrovians during her playing career, led the Sunshine Girls to a bronze medal at the World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2007.The tough-talking tactician also guided the Jamaicans to the bronze medal at the inaugural FastNet Championships in 2008.Francis represented Jamaica at five World Championships. After coaching Jamaica to the bronze in 2007, Francis was relieved of her duties ahead of the 2011 World Champion-ships. She then had a stint with the St Lucia national team.Efforts were made to gauge Francis’ interest in the post but she could not be reached for a comment.last_img
